Video - Film Opening: Similarities To Genre

For my video production I have chosen to do a Slasher/Stalker horror. I then looked at three trailers for films which have a similar horror theme. I chose to look at the films "Scream", "I know what you did last summer" and "One missed call". I then was able to see what the main things which appear in this type of genre which would help me to distinguish what to put in my slasher/stalker horror film.

The similarities in these films are that the cast seem to be young adults/teenagers and some mysterious character which causes a disruption in the films. Also the main character seems to solve the mystery in the end of the film. The locations are normally based in characters homes and schools etc. Slow edits tend to be used in mysterious parts to create tension and a sense foreboding. Rapid edits are used to create the fast pace of the film and create fear in the audience.

The mis-en-scene of these films is that character wear trendy clothing which are modern and props are used to create a sense of tension and gives a feeling that it will play some part in the movie later on.

Depth of field are used within these types of films as narrow focus is normally used to highlight the fear and the importance of the object in focus.

The target audience in these Slasher/stalker horror movies seems to be teenagers and young adult as they are more likely to watch these types of movies.
